History of concrete

So far as we know, the Egyptians, the Mesopotamian and Greeks were among the first who used concrete, but they did not use it quite often. In stead, It is the Romans who began to use it a lot in their buildings about the time of emperor Nero, 60 AD. From then on, they used it more and more. That is why many old Romanic architectures we can still see today are made of concretes.

Road building using concrete became popular in America in the middle of the 1800’s. This was part of the revolution that began with the industrial age. Concrete was first taken from natural resources, such as the lakes that were in Trinidad. However, by the beginning of the 1900’s, the mixture for roads and pavement began to be a mixture of several different types of rocks

Later on, people found that the concrete could become reinforced when they put mental rods inside it. This is another significant revolution of concrete. Most concrete buildings today are reinforced with steel.

History of Concrete Mixers

It keeps a mystery when the first concrete mixer came into existence. However, not until the 1920’s, when automobiles started to become popular, did the concrete mixers first became popular. Mixers were first seen as trays that were heated over coal fires. Aggregate was dried in this tray, then asphalt would be poured on top of it. This mix was then stirred by hand. Drums were soon after invented, and wheels were later added in order to make it easier for the building of roadways and sidewalks. These draw the public’s great attention and were popular until the 1960s.
